A native of Altadena California, Mezzo Soprano Alteouise DeVaughn has performed with opera companies all around the world. Currently residing in Port Douglas, FNQ with her husband of 9 years, Idris Alkamraikhi.
Alteouise attended Eastman School of Music, Rochester N.Y. and The Juilliard School of Music in New York City. She is a winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition.
Mezzo Soprano Alteouise DeVaughn is well known to audiences throughout the United States and Europe. Since her move to Far North Queensland, she has been delighting Australian audiences and has recently joined Opera Australia as a principal Artist.
Ms DeVaughn made her professional debut with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra , and her Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Collegiate Chorale as the alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah.
She made her debut with the Atlanta Symphony under the direction of Robert Shaw. She made her European debut at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Italy.
Ms DeVaughn has performed a wide variety of major roles with opera companies all around the world, the list is truly extensive.
Currently she is the music director of her local community Theatre in Port Douglas.
In 2021 she joined a massed choir of singers from across the region where she performed a soloist role in Handel’s ‘Messiah’ at CPAC.
She was recently recognised by Douglas Shire Council and awarded the Arts and Culture award at the Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day 2022. She is an inspiration to the community, voluntarily directing six choirs from Cairns to Cooktown and the Atherton Tablelands.
